Lesson 183
I call upon God’s Name and on my own. (ACIM, W-183)
Lesson 183 lesson asks us to call on "God's Name" throughout the day until it "becomes our only thought, our only word, the only thing that occupies our minds, the only wish we have, the only sound with any meaning, and the only Name of everything that we desire to see; of everything that we would call our own. (ACIM, W-183.6:6)
To me, however, the name "God" can be a stumbling block. "God" is an abstract concept, and carries many meanings in my own mind, including thoughts of judgment based on traditional religious teachings. Saying and thinking "God" all the time feels like vain repetition.
God, however, is to be understood as love, and as goodness. Like God, "love" and "the good" are hard to define, but we do know we experience them: we feel good, we feel love, and we love people and things we feel good about.
So when you say "God's Name," and have God dominate your thoughts, that means love and goodness dominate your thoughts. To see God in every thing you see is to love them, to see good in them.
To say the name of God isn't to please a powerful judge, is to be pleased. It is to experience love and goodness.
